Apex Legends Emergence map changes: Everything we know so far

Apex Legends Emergence map changes: Everything we know so far

As Season 10’s launch looms near, Respawn Entertainment has announced plans for major changes to World’s Edge which will see some major locations demolished.

Respawn has stated their design philosophy for Season 10 Emergence was to retain the original language of World’s Edge as much as possible while “improving things with fun, fresh new gameplay spaces and experiences.”

While players may find some of these changes dramatic, Respawn seems confident that they’ll freshen up World’s Edge which has gone through.

Respawn has said: “A metamorphosis has come to World’s Edge. After months of aggressive mining by the Harvester, the land is overmined, overburdened, and pushed to its limit. The earth has fractured and erupted as nature is reclaiming what’s hers.

“ Hammond is scrambling to contain the damage they’ve caused.

“They’re using weather controlling machines to rapidly cool the area to sub-zero temperatures at the Climatizer and building a Lava Siphon to stabilize the caldera.

“The struggle between the inevitability of change and humankind’s arrogant attempts to control that change can be seen across World’s Edge.”

A common theme in Apex Legend’s Titanfall universe is the blurred lines between man, nature, and machine as they become more tangled.

Apex’s devs seemed determined to bring this theme into World’s Edge by combining the growing influence of industrialisation and its effects on nature as it changes the atmosphere of the world, not too different from what we’re seeing today.

With all that out the way, here are the changes to World’s Edge.

Climatizer

The Refinery has now been completely wiped off the map by a molten lava fissure and has been replaced by Climatizer, a much larger location than the Refinery was.

Respawn has said: “The idea here is that Hammond has constructed massive cloud seeding towers to cool down World’s Edge, and this new POI features the necessary equipment.

Climatizer will replace the Refinery

“From a design perspective, we wanted to attract more players to the northern region of Worlds Edge with a POI that’s much larger than Refinery was. Accordingly, the Climatizer supports a lot more teams and provides them with much more loot to fight over.”

Climatizer will include some buildings with interiors that encourage close-combat encounters while also providing a wider exterior for more long-range combat opportunities with sniper rifles.

Fissure Extension

World’s Edge has now been split in two all the way between Climatizer and Fragment East with a river of bubbling lav connecting the two.

The northern crack differs from other areas as there are no updrafts to keep the player afloat- players can traverse the lava but will take damage while doing so.

Respawn claims the Fissure Extension was introduced to encourage more meaningful decision-making while rotating the northern part of the map- it also introduces new choke points for combat.

Gondolas

Respawn is introducing new moving gondola carts at Climatizer and Lava Siphon so as to create a safe passage through the new lava that extends through the areas.

They also hope that it will create some interesting combat opportunities that Respawn hopes will create some fantastic community clips.

They said: “We think the gondolas are extremely fun, and we hope they’ll bring some awesome combat encounters to life. We can’t wait to see what clips the community shares!”

Lava Siphon

Sorting Factory has now been completely swallowed by lava and has been replaced with Lava Siphon, a large POI for players to traverse.

Respawn said their inspiration for Lava Siphon was: “Mainly, we wanted to introduce a fresh new experience here at this POI.

Sorting Factory has been swallowed by a sinkhole of lava

“The goals were to break away from the traditional free-flowing layout that existed at Sorting Factory, and to introduce opportunities for chaotic, overlapping fights that stand out from other existing combat spaces in World’s Edge.”

A large building at Lava Siphon will be embedded into a mountain which should create some interesting close-combat opportunities while introducing some new rotation routes through a tracking tunnel behind the building.

A giant sinkhole in the area creates a new level of consideration in decision-making when landing and rotating through the area.

Landslide

Seismic activity at Train Yard has led the area to be demolished and replaced with a wasteland that’s almost unrecognisable from what it once was.

The area’s layout has been simplified to reduce the time players can hold a position- Train Yard was previously well-known for being a camping area, creating frustration among many players.

Players can no longer camp in Train Yard

Respawn has stated: “Fundamentally, our goal here is to prevent the prolonged fights that previously took place around the Train Yard, as well as improving the flow into the tunnel linking to Fragment West.

“Don’t worry, Landslide is still considered a POI on the map and contains almost the same amount of loot as Train Yard did, but it’s a bit more scattered and spread out.,” they added.

The hot zone has been completely removed from this area.
