Latest coronavirus infection rates for every borough in Greater Manchester

Coronavirus infection rates have fallen in all ten boroughs of Greater Manchester.

Salford continues to have the highest coronavirus infection rate in the region, according to the latest data from Public Health England (PHE).

The borough recorded a rate of 447.4 cases per 100,000 people in the week ending July 26.

Bolton still has the lowest infection rate with 284.1 cases per 100,000 people.

In Greater Manchester as a whole, the infection rate stands at 372.8 cases per 100,000 population.

The infection rate in the region is higher than the national average, which is 322.1 cases per 100,000 people.

A total of 10,571 people tested positive for coronavirus across Greater Manchester in the week which ended on July 26.

The latest rates for every borough

The Greater Manchester weekly total has decreased by 8025 cases compared to the previous week, which means the infection rate was down 43 per cent in the last week..

The infection rate is higher than the national average in 9 areas of Greater Manchester. It is lower than the national average in one area.

Hospital admissions have risen, though. A total of 388 patients were admitted to Greater Manchester’s NHS hospitals with Covid-19 in the week ending July 25.

That is 67 more than the week before, a rise of 21 per cent.

As of Tuesday, July 27, there were 49 Mechanical Ventilation (MV) beds occupied by Covid patients in Greater Manchester NHS hospitals. That is two fewer than a week earlier.

This is the most recent available data for hospital admissions – the figures for NHS trusts are not updated daily.

A total of 34 people died within 28 days of a positive Covid test across Greater Manchester in the week ending July 26 – six more than the week before.

The infection rates for each borough in Greater Manchester

Trafford

In Trafford, the number of cases is down by 37 per cent compared to the previous week – leaving the infection rate at 347.2 cases per 100,000 population.

There were 824 positive Covid-19 tests in Trafford in the week ending July 26, which was 482 fewer than the previous 7 days.

Stockport

There was a fall of 41 per cent in cases in Stockport over the week ending July 26, and the infection rate is now 357.5 cases per 100,000 population.

Stockport recorded 1049 positive Covid-19 tests over the seven-day period, and that is 740 fewer than the previous week.

Wigan

The trend is down in Wigan, where there were 1260 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending July 26, which is 1439 fewer than the previous 7 days. That is down by 53 per cent compared to the previous week.

The latest infection rate in Wigan is 383.4 cases per 100,000 people, which is higher than the national average.

Tameside

Tameside recorded 893 coronavirus cases, which is 719 fewer than in the previous seven days.

The latest infection rate in Tameside is 394.3 cases per 100,000 people and that is down 45 per cent week-on-week.

Bolton

Bolton, which has the lowest infection rate in the region, recorded 817 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending July 26, which is 716 fewer than the previous 7 days.

The coronavirus infection rate in Bolton is now 284.1 cases per 100,000 people and is down by 47 per cent week-on-week.

Oldham

There were 1023 positive tests over the last week in Oldham, which is 869 fewer than in the previous week.

The week-on-week trend in Oldham is down by 46 per cent and the latest infection rate is 431.4 cases per 100,000 people.

Manchester

Manchester saw a total of 2019 cases in the week ending July 26, which is 1204 fewer than the previous week. That is a fall of 37 per cent.

In Manchester, the most recent coronavirus infection rate is now 365.2 cases per 100,000 people.

Salford

In Salford, there were 1158 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending July 26, which is 722 fewer than the previous 7 days.

Salford has the highest infection rate in the region. The infection rate in Salford is down slightly compared with the previous day and the week-on-week trend is down by 38 per cent.

Rochdale

In Rochdale, the latest infection rate is 402.9 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases has gone down by 41 per cent.

A total of 896 people tested positive for Covid in Rochdale over the seven days ending on July 26, which is 620 fewer than the week before.

Bury

Bury is an area where the trend is down. The latest infection rate here is 330.9 cases per 100,000 people.

There were 632 cases recorded in Bury, which is 514 fewer than the previous week – a fall of 45 per cent.
