The victims of Plymouth gunman Jake Davison included his own mother, a three-year-old girl and her father.

The full names of all those killed in the Plymouth shooting were released by police today, and have now been pictured.

Gunman Jake Davison, 22, shot and killed five people in the incident in the Keyham area on Thursday, including his mother, Maxine Davison, also known as Maxine Chapman, who was aged 51.

Three-year-old Sophie Martyn was shot dead with her father Lee Martyn, aged 43. Witnesses say Lee desperately tried to save his daughter by putting his arm around Sophie as Davison fired at them, the Mirror reports.

Also killed were Stephen Washington, aged 59, and Kate Shepherd, aged 66, who was injured at the scene and died later at Derriford Hospital.

Police have also now confirmed that the firearm used in the shooting was legally held by Davison.

It comes as the police watchdog will be looking into why the gunman was legally allowed to have a firearms licence.

Davison was using what was described as a “pump action shotgun” to carry out the attack, PlymouthLive reports.

And the Guardian has reported that Davison had his firearms licence revoked in December – but had it then reinstated by police last month.

The paper reported Davison had his licence suspended after concerns over his ‘suitability’ to hold a firearm but had it reinstated last month, after he attended an anger management course.

Now, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) will be investigating how Davison was legally allowed to own the shotgun.

On Friday evening, 24 hours after terror struck the city, hundreds gathered in a Keyham park in a candlelit vigil to the victims.

Hundreds placed flowers and candles in North Down Crescent Park in Keyham to remember those who were killed.

As the evening went on, a sea of tributes were left on the grass – including notes paying tribute to the victims.

People could be seen with tears in their eyes and clasping their hands together, while others comforted each other.

Many began congregating while it was still light to place the tributes on the ground close to where the incident began on Thursday.

The mass shooting is the first in Britain for more than a decade after taxi driver Derrick Bird killed 12 people in Cumbria and injured 11 others before taking his own life in 2010.

Police said on Friday: “Devon & Cornwall Police can now confirm the identities of those people who have died following a shooting incident in Keyham, Plymouth on Thursday, August 12, 2021.

“All the deceased lived locally in the Keyham area.

“The offender has been named as Jake Davison, aged 22.

“The victims have been identified as Maxine Davison, also known as Maxine Chapman, aged 51, who was the mother of the offender.

“Further victims were Sophie Martyn, aged three, and her father Lee Martyn, aged 43.
