Greater Manchester’s latest coronavirus infection rates with increases in nearly every borough

Weekly trends in coronavirus infection rates show cases increasing in nine out of Greater Manchester’s 10 boroughs.

In Trafford, cases have gone up by 20 per cent, with increases of 18 per cent recorded in Tameside and Bolton.

Bolton still has the lowest infection rate anywhere in Greater Manchester.

Only in the Manchester area are infection rates said to be dropping, according to official data published by Public Health England on Saturday.

Salford continues to have the highest coronavirus infection rate in Greater Manchester.

The borough recorded a rate of 397.8 cases per 100,000 people in the week ending August 10, which is the latest data available.

The lowest infection rate is in Bolton, where the rate is 215.1 cases per 100,000 people.

In Greater Manchester as a whole, the infection rate is now 317.5 cases per 100,000 population.

That’s higher than the national average, which is 305.9 cases per 100,000 people.

A total of 9,003 people tested positive for coronavirus across Greater Manchester in the week to August 10.

The Greater Manchester weekly total has increased by 655 cases compared to the previous week, meaning the infection rate was up eight per cent in the last week.

The infection rate is higher than the national average in seven areas of Greater Manchester – Salford, Manchester, Trafford, Oldham, Stockport, Tameside and Bury.

It’s lower in Rochdale, Wigan and Bolton.

Data on Saturday also shows that in the week ending on August 8, a total of 334 patients were admitted to Greater Manchester NHS hospitals with Covid-19 – encouragingly 36 fewer than the week before.

In the week ending August 10, 34 people died within 28 days of a positive Covid test in Greater Manchester, 16 fewer than the week before.

In Trafford, the latest infection rate is 338.8 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases has gone up by 20 per cent.

A total of 805 people tested positive for Covid in Trafford over the seven days ending on August 10, 134 more than the week before.

In Salford, there were 1045 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending August 10, nine more than the previous seven days.

Salford has the highest infection rate in the region.

The infection rate in Salford is down slightly compared with the previous day, but the week-on-week trend is up by one per cent.

In Rochdale, the number of cases is up by four per cent compared to the previous week – leaving the infection rate at 283.9 cases per 100,000 population.

There were 635 positive Covid-19 tests in Rochdale in the week ending August 10, which was 22 more than the previous week.

Wigan is an area where the trend is up. The latest infection rate here is 265.2 cases per 100,000 people.

There were 877 cases recorded in Wigan, which is 116 more than the previous week – a rise of 15 per cent.

The trend is also up in Stockport, where there were 979 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending August 10, which is 93 more than the previous seven days. That is up by 10 per cent compared to the previous week.

The latest infection rate in Stockport is 332.8 cases per 100,000 people, which is higher than the national average.

Tameside saw a total of 723 cases in the week ending August 10, which is 112 more than the previous week. That is a rise of 18 per cent.

In Tameside, the most recent coronavirus infection rate is now 318.3 cases per 100,000 people.

Bolton, which has the lowest infection rate in the region, recorded 620 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending August 10, which is 95 more than the previous seven days.

The coronavirus infection rate in Bolton is now 215.1 cases per 100,000 people and is up by 18 per cent week-on-week.

There were 1932 positive tests over the last week in Manchester, which is 16 fewer than in the previous week.

The week-on-week trend in Manchester is down by one per cent and the latest infection rate is 347.6 cases per 100,000 people.

Figures show a rise of 11 per cent in cases in Bury over the week ending August 10, and the infection rate is now 309.9 cases per 100,000 population.

Bury recorded 591 positive Covid-19 tests over the seven-day period – 59 more than the previous week.

Oldham recorded 796 coronavirus cases, which is 31 more than in the previous seven days.

The latest infection rate in Oldham is 335.0 cases per 100,000 people and that is up four per cent week-on-week.”
