The M60 in Greater Manchester is closed anti-clockwise this morning while police are dealing with what is being described as a “serious incident”.
12.30am when Highways England reported that one lane had been closed from junction 17 for the A56 (Prestwich) to junction 15 for the M61 junction 1.
Greater Manchester Police officers and the North West Ambulance Service were said to be on on the scene.
At around 12.50am, North West Motorway police tweeted: “Police dealing with a serious incident on M60 anticlockwise between j17 and j16 – Highways assisting in closing main c’way and on slip at j17 anticlockwise”
Highways England later tweeted at 1am that the M60 anti-clockwise J17 to J15 is closed due to an incident.
In an update posted at 1.37am, roads and traffic monitoring service Inrix said: “M60 anti-clockwise closed due to police incident from J17 A56 Bury New Road (Prestwich/Whitefield) to J15 M61 J1 (Swinton Interchange).”
Highways England said delays are likely on the approach to the closure, with additional journey times also expected on the diversion route.
Traffic is diverted to follow the solid triangle symbol, to leave the M60 at J17 and rejoin at J15.
The diversion is via the A56 northbound, the B6473 westbound, the A665 westbound, the A6053 westbound, the A5082 eastbound and A666 southbound.
