A man has been arrested after two women had their mobile phones snatched in Manchester city centre.
Officers from Greater Manchester Police chased a 17-year-old male riding a bike on Tuesday evening after two women had their phones taken.
In a statement shortly before 1am on Wednesday, police said that the man was in custody after being arrested in relation to two personal robberies.
Greater Manchester Police said in a statement on Twitter: “#GMPSpecOps #TAU Officers chased and arrested a 17yr Male cycling on a bike after snatching 2 Mobile Phones from 2 Females in the City Centre this evening.
“The male is current in Police Custody for 2 x Personal Robberies.”
The arrest was carried out as part of Operation Valiant, which sees police take action to reduce the number of robberies across Greater Manchester, with a dedicated operation to tackle the issue and keep the people of Greater Manchester and their belongings safe.
A statement on the Greater Manchester Police website reads: “Launched in February 2018, Operation Valiant aims to reduce personal robberies by deterring offenders and educating the public about the risks and different steps they can use to keep themselves safe.”
