Well, what a day yesterday was, eh?
Manchester City’s transfer window finally burst into life as they announced the signing of Jack Grealish from Aston Villa.
The Blues have smashed the British transfer record by spending £100million on the 25-year-old playmaker, who has put pen to paper on a six-year deal that will keep him at the club until 2027.
He said: “I am incredibly happy to have joined Manchester City. City are the best team in the country with a manager considered to be the best in the world – it’s a dream come true to be part of this club.”
But that was only half the story on a very busy night.
Barcelona also confirmed that Lionel Messi has left the club as the Argentine was unable to renew his contract due to La Liga’s financial restrictions.
It’s not yet clear if City will make another attempt to recruit Messi as they have signed Grealish and still want to bring in Harry Kane from Tottenham, but the club’s Chief Operating Officer Omar Berrada has told the Manchester Evening News in October that the club would be able to afford a move for him.
