Man City stance on Liam Delap loan transfer
New Manchester City under-23 coach Brian Barry-Murphy expects Liam Delap to stay at the club this season – but not as an academy player.
Delap, 18, had a prolific season at under-23 level last season, winning the Premier League 2 Golden Boot by some distance as the Elite Development Squad won the title for the first time.
The forward also made his senior debut, scoring on his first appearance in City’s Carabao Cup win over Bournemouth. Delap was also handed a Premier League debut and appeared in a number of other matchday squads.
As a result, a number of Championship clubs have publicly expressed an interest in taking Delap on loan for the season, including Middlesbrough, Millwall, Derby and Stoke — where his dad Rory is a coach.
However, Barry-Murphy says he’s expecting Delap to be a City player this season, rather than get senior experience out on loan.
