There has been an outpouring of love and support for Denis Law from those connected to both Manchester clubs after the legendary striker revealed he is suffering with dementia.
Both Manchester United and City today joined fans and players in sending messages of support to Denis after he revealed he had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and Vascular dementia.
Law, 81, who has two statues at Old Trafford, released a statement through his daughter saying that he wanted to be open about his condition.

Scotsman Denis, who also played 79 times in two stints at City, said that the “road ahead will be hard, demanding, painful and ever-changing and so I ask for understanding and patience as this will not be an easy journey especially for the people who love you the most.”
He added: ” I am trying to be positive and determined to continue watching my club” referring to United.

In a post on social media, United said: “Everybody is with you in this battle, Denis.
“We are in admiration of your openness, your bravery and your humility to be open about your dementia diagnosis.”
They added in a statement: “Denis Law will always be one of this club’s greatest legends and everybody at Manchester United sends our love and best wishes to him and his family.
“We know our fans around the world will also rally behind him.
“We applaud Denis’s brave words and will continue to offer whatever support we can as he adapts to this challenging condition.”

City said: “Everyone at Manchester City sends their thoughts and best wishes to Denis Law at this difficult time. We are all with you.”
There were also scores of messages from players and fans alike.
Current United captain Harry Maguire said: “Stay strong Denis
“All the players are here for you.”
Reds legend Wayne Rooney said: “Thinking of you Denis. Legend.”

England’s 1966 World Cup hero Sir Geoff Hurst said: “So sad to hear news that the one and only Denis Law has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s but I will join him by being positive and supporting his daughter’s fundraising for Alzheimer’s Society, who are doing so much to fight this awful condition and support those affected by it.
“Denis is one of the greats and a truly great character, always remember meeting him when I was a young player at WHU and he was a king at ManU.
“I love his story about us – England – ruining his game of golf back in ’66!
“Please support The Alzheimer’s Society, it is so important.”
European football’s governing bldy UEFA said: “On behalf of the European football community, we’re all with you, Denis.”
Former player and now pundit Chris Sutton said: “Really sad news this is about the great Denis Law , yet another member of the great Manchester United 1968 team to be diagnosed with dementia. It’s such a shame the footballing authorities didn’t act sooner.”
Denis’ daughter said this evening: “Omg wow wow wow…..Dad is so touched by each of you and your generosity so big thank you.”
