Simon Jordan launches scathing attack on £100m Man City signing Jack Grealish

“We are going to see what a £100million footballer looks like. It doesn’t look like Jack Grealish.”

That’s the scathing verdict from talkSPORT host and former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan after Manchester City broke the Premier League record to sign Grealish for £100million from Aston Villa.

An improved 2020/2021 season from the mercurial England playmaker saw him score six goals and provide 10 assists for his beloved Villa – before further underlining his reputation at Euro 2020.

As a result, Pep Guardiola issued a u-turn on his own transfer stance and identified Grealish as a priority target.

That’s despite City continuing to hold a firm interest in Tottenham striker Harry Kane.

Grealish, meanwhile, was handed his debut beneath the famous Wembley arch as City were narrowly beaten 1-0 by FA Cup winners Leicester City in the Community Shield.

However, while the controversial Jordan admits he does rate the player to some level, he argues Guardiola and co have paid over the odds for Grealish’s services.

Jordan said: “There is not a parallel universe where Jack Grealish is worth £100million – and it will be interesting to see how he develops, because while I don’t think he’s the emperor’s new clothes, I also don’t think that he’s all he’s made out to be.

“I think he’s a very good player and in an Aston Villa side he’s been a very big fish in a small pond. That’s not because Aston Villa are a small club, because they’re not.

“But by comparison of achievements, Man City and Aston Villa are polar opposites right now.”

Jordan added: “He will go into Man City and we will see the advantages he’s got, because he’s playing for arguably the best coach in the world alongside, arguably, some of the best players in the world.

“That will enhance him, but we are going to see what a £100million footballer looks like – I’ll tell you what it doesn’t look like, it doesn’t look like Jack Grealish.”
